Learning and Teaching

Sacred Heart is the Parish primary school of the Sacred Heart Parish of Kew. The school, in the Melbourne Archdiocese, is a part of the Victorian Catholic Education system.

Sacred Heart School offers a strong and comprehensive academic curriculum with very high standards in all areas. Religious Education is at the heart of all we do.

The Victorian Curriculum F–10 sets out what every student should learn during their first eleven years of schooling. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship.

The staff are encouraged to attend professional development programs to support our goals and intended outcomes and there is a demonstrated enthusiasm and willingness to embrace change. Assessment practices are an integral part of our teaching and learning program. Curriculum nights are offered to parents to give an insight into the content, skills and activities for year level.

The students are explicitly taught to be reflective thinkers and learners. All children are expected to apply a problem solving stance to their work, to plan and improvise as required by the learning situation and to become better decision makers.

Literacy and Numeracy underpin the strength of our teaching & learning programs.
